Gunslinger: Lincoln Cusp

A known horse whisperer, Lincoln was held for the death of a Lawman trampled by his own horse.

Lincoln is not your typical Outlaw. Immediately you are struck by a man in leather fringe, like a pioneer maybe? But then you notice all the blue turquoise and that necklace, so maybe he is native? But wait, he is blonde-haired and blue-eyed so that can’t be it. But he is wearing a red bandana like a typical bandit, so he has to be a bad guy, and is that a bullet hole in his hat brim?

Lincoln, masterfully drawn by game artist Steven Lambert, is a complex character and unique personality in Life Out West. Raised by Apache Indians, Lincoln believes horses should roam wild. And, after winning a Shootout, he always sets them free.

In Life Out West, Lincoln is one of three characters that causes the Lawman to discard all of a single Resource. Strategically, this is a fun Gunslinger to use, causing chaos and setbacks against your opponents. But Anything can happen Out West, and the lead in a game can change quickly, so using Outlaws that force multiple discards ensure no single opponent gets too far ahead. Typically, Lincoln will attack players who have the most Horse Resource Cards and smile as they are all “set free” into the discard pile. Sometimes, he will attack the player who can’t get a Horse to save their life, finally does, but can’t play it on their turn. When Lincoln attacks, even if he doesn’t draw said coveted Horse Card, he forces the Lawman to discard it anyway. In the end, Lincoln feels vindicated in his actions, as he goes back to his hideout and watches for another town whose imprisoned horses need liberated to freedom.
