Gunslinger: Dick Colson

Colson blames his wife’s death on the Lawman that failed to show up for a Shootout.

What a strange little man.

Since the beginning, Dick Colson was an Outlaw like no other and once again, Steven did an excellent job capturing that in his illustration. It’s hard not to notice his short stature, with dual pistols ready to fight, and those crazy, twitching eyes. And I love the highlights on his jacket and guns.

I imagine Colson quietly sitting at a table in the middle of a saloon, as all ears are on a conversation at the bar. A stranger asks the bartender if he knows the whereabouts of the notorious Colson. The music abruptly stops as Dick looks up from beneath his hat, and with an uncontrollable twitch, he angrily stammers “Vendetta, Vendetta!” The stranger, a visiting Lawman, looks over at the Outlaw, as patrons quietly pull back. “What’s that you say son?”, the Lawman asks. The agitated Colson pushes himself up out of his chair and stomps his way over to the Lawman, mumbling a string of insults and starts poking the stranger in the chest. The Lawman, surprised by the sudden and aggressive move, looks down as Dick, coming up only to his shoulders, demands, “You wanna take this outside coward?”

And that’s Dick Colson. Unstable, full of anger, and always looking for a fight. Like a chihuahua who doesn’t realize, or care, they are outmatched.

Strategically, Colson is a fun Outlaw to have and often played as his Napoleon complex dictates; pick a fight with the player who has the most cards. If Dick wins, well chalk one up for retribution and take a card from the smug jerk. And if Dick loses, you can take solace as you shout, “Vendetta, Vendetta” and fire one last shot as to kill the Lawman and open their Town up to future raids.

Sometimes life isn’t complicated, just attack the leader.

Card: Outlaw

Ability: If Colson is killed by a Lawman with more cards than he has, Dick may take a second shot at the Lawman.
